i don’t want to sleep alone

when all are asleep

but the night is awake

when the crickets cry

and the heart thumps aloud

then the walls stare at me

and i stare back, and say

“i don’t want to sleep alone”

when you were here

these walls never stared

drowned in your laughter

i never heard the crickets

i never knew of others asleep

now, it all presses my soul

an empty soul that cries back

“i don’t want to sleep alone”

our games, our art, our love

are now mere echoes

a longing hides

somewhere in my hollowness

and remembers

the gentle caress of your hands

until it comes, i shall wait

i don’t want to sleep alone
