sounds of the night

saanjh dhalay, gagan talay, hum kitne ekaaki
chhod chale naino ko,  kirno ke paakhi

paati ki jaali se jhaank rahi thi kaliyaan
gandh bhari gun-gun mein magan hui thi kaliyaan
itne mein timir dhasa sapneele naino mein
kaliyon ke aansu ka koi nahi saathi

chhod chale naino ko kirno ke paakhi
saanjh dhalay, gagan talay, hum kitne ekaaki

jugnu ka pat odhay aayegi raat abhi
nishigandha ke sur mein keh degi baat abhi
tapta hai mann jaise daali ambva ki

saanjh dhalay, gagan talay, hum kitne ekaaki

Night as nature’s special gift. Night as solitude. Night as an infinite silence. Night as loneliness. Night as memory, of years and decades. Night as memory of millenia. Night as the sound of the heart beating. Night as the solitary owl. Night as the resplendent moon, the face of the beloved.

The elements of night are many. Night itself is one – a darkness with unfathomable depths, a darkness that is the source of all light, a darkness that gives all there is. Perhaps we all carry night within us as we walk the earth during the day. In our sufferings, in our inspirations, in our solace.
